Following January 1st 2021, the United Kingdom has left the European Union meaning there have been significant changes to VAT, customs and labelling requirements for all e-commerce sellers.

Some of the most important changes are as follows:
  • Goods shipped into the UK from abroad to be sold to UK customers require the seller to register and pay for VAT in the UK.
  • Import VAT on batches of goods worth £15 or less no longer exempt due to abolition of the Low Value Consignment VAT Exemption, coming into effect July 2021.
  • Online marketplaces are now liable to pay VAT in the UK under certain conditions.
  • The responsibility for charging VAT transferred from seller to online marketplace operator, when goods already in the UK at point of sale are sold by a overseas seller.
  • EORI number now required to export goods to the EU from UK, or vice versa.

To find out more, this article provides clear and detailed information useful to any online seller.
